One of the most exciting - and nerve-wracking - aspects of being a first-time author (or I’m sure, any author) is waiting to see how people react to your book.
I’ve poured my heart and thousands of hours of research and writing and revising into this book and now - people are just going to tell me, straight up, what they think?
That’s honestly really scary. Even for someone used to hearing from people - sometimes trolls - about my work.
Particularly so for a book like The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving The White Evangelical Church - which is both a product of my own reporting and my own personal story of growing up in the white evangelical church, and my often-conflicted journey since then.
So I’m really thrilled and honored to share this first official book review, online here and publishing this weekend in the October 15 issue of Kirkus Reviews. Here’s an excerpt:
“A bold, intriguing, intimate read … McCammon’s poignant book serves as a launchpad to learn more.”
-Kirkus Reviews
The book is out March 19, and pre-orders help so much. My publisher says we’re already off to a strong start for a book that’s still several months away from publication, and I want to thank each of you who’ve ordered! It makes a difference.
If you haven’t, pre-orders are available here (lots of ordering options, very easy!).
Also, if you know someone who might be interested in this book - because of their own religious background, or their partner’s, or their interest in learning more and understanding it better - please share!
Book reviews are part of the deal, and I’m so thrilled to read this wonderful, positive review of my work.
So thank you, Kirkus!
Pre-ordered today!
Congrats!! That’s huge!!!
