Good morning!
It’s my first day (back) at NPR’s Washington Desk as a National Political Correspondent and Co-Host of the NPR Politics Podcast.
On a sunny morning in July 2015, I walked into the NPR newsroom for the first time, as a campaign reporter assigned to cover the 2016 GOP primary. Donald Trump had just entered the race the previous month. Eight years later, we’ve seen the rise of Trumpism, the deepening polarization of the country, and the end of Roe v. Wade.
I’ve spent much of the last several years focusing specifically on the abortion beat -covering the slow erosion of access to abortion, the rightward movement of the Supreme Court under Trump, and just over a year ago, the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision which allowed abortion bans to take effect around the country and fundamentally reshaped access.
Today, I’m moving back to where I started at NPR. I’ve been feeling ready for a pivot, and one year post-Dobbs, with another critical campaign season ramping up, the time feels right. I’m very excited to get to work.
You’ll still hear my reporting on many of the issues I’ve focused on the for the past several years, with a wide national political focus. You’ll also hear me frequently hosting and appearing on the NPR Politics Podcast - starting today.
More details here.
Look forward to hearing more from you. Exangelicals is like looking in the mirror; rear-view. Thanks.
Grateful that someone with your depth of understanding about religion and Christianity will be covering politics as we move deeper into this election cycle!
