I spent approximately 36 hours in South Carolina last week watching that state’s former governor, Nikki Haley, do what we all knew she was likely to do soon enough: suspend her campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Haley didn’t endorse frontrunner Donald Trump, but she didn’t NOT endorse him. Instead, she expressed “hope” that he can win over her supporters.
So, the general election season has begun, as I discussed this week on News Nation’s “The Hill” and CNN’s “Inside Politics.”
And now, I’m stepping away from campaign reporting for a few weeks to launch my book, The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church.
Friends, we are ONE WEEK from publication day!
It’s a little unreal but very exciting. I held my book - my real, hardcover book - in my hands for the first time a few days ago, and you can have one, too, very soon!
As a reminder, if you’d like a signed bookplate, you’ve got a few more days to pre-order HERE. Pre-orders are going strong and are very helpful in setting up a successful book launch.
I’ve been busy talking with various podcasters and writers about the book:
I spoke to Ruth Graham of The New York Times for the Faith Angle Forum podcast about questions including, “If evangelicals or other religious Americans leave the fold, what replaces that unique sense of purpose, transcendent faith, and community?”
Dr. Jemar Tisby and I discussed how race affects experiences with evangelicalism, and reminisced a bit about growing up in the 1990s
Tim Whitaker of “The New Evangelicals” and I talked about the breadth and complexity of the exvangelical movement, and the variety of paths people follow after leaving evangelical spaces.
