I’m so excited to share with you that after what truly feels like the product of a lifetime of work - because my book, The Exvangelicals, is a product of my entire life, all the way back to the first time I said the “Sinner’s Prayer” as a frightened and tender toddler in Kansas City, Mo…..up to and including my work today as a journalist with NPR:
I dug deep and shared some very personal stories that help to answer a question I get asked a lot - How did you get from THAT to THIS? - and, I hope, explain a little bit about the ideological polarization we find ourselves swimming in today.
But The Exvangelicals is not just my story. I’m a journalist, and I live for telling other people’s stories. So it’s mine, in conversation with many others I’ve had the honor of meeting along the way.
With this book I’ve tried to paint a picture of what it was like for so many of us who grew up ensconced in the white evangelical world at a time when the movement was a rising and powerful political and cultural force which nonetheless viewed itself as embattled and on the margins…what it’s like to leave that often-insular world….and what drives many of us to make what’s usually a very painful journey.
It’s scary to write a book like this, but I feel like it was demanding to be written; it’s been gestating in my mind for so long and finally, for many reasons, in the last couple of years I’ve felt ready to bring it into the world.
So here it is, available now for pre-order (if you’re thinking of buying it, ordering it now would be very helpful as I’m working to promote the book, so thanks in advance if that’s something you’re able to do!). Publishing next spring.
Thank you!!
~Sarah
Preordered, despite the fact that I'm a life-long agnostic, because the vast majority of people around me are not. And because McCammon is awesome.
Congrats, Sarah! Preordered two, one to read and one to give away. Having been on this journey in recent years, I can't wait to read! Cheering you on!
